Joint Research by FPI and SAQA - Learning Pathways followed by Financial Planners and Financial Advisors
With the ever-increasing emphasis on articulation within the South African Post School Education and Training System (PSET), the importance to examine how learners navigate the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) has led to the findings recorded in this paper. The paper explores the learning pathway followed by professional members of the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI) and is based on the learning achievements of over 18 000 FPI members as recorded on the National Learners’ Records Database (NLRD).

This short study aims to inform discussion of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) practices. It is an early step towards the possible formulation of general policy and guidelines for CPD in South Africa’s professional bodies.The study reflects an initial desk-top investigation of different approaches to CPD. It focuses mainly on formal requirements and the issues they raise.
