Reporting Misconduct

The FPI takes great pride in the standards of professionalism and integrity of our members and therefore holds the professional conduct and integrity of its members as a primary concern. If a member of the public feels that a member of the FPI has not complied with our Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility, we would encourage the member of the public to lodge a complaint with the FPI.

We investigate the conduct of our members in terms of its Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility. As a statutory organisation, we are however not able to order a defaulting member to pay any amounts for damages suffered by clients. We are in a position to suspend or terminate a defaulting member’s membership and right to use our marks (the CFP® mark and various others).

The documents below will guide and assist you in lodging a complaint. Should you wish to discuss a complaint, please contact Adv. Jacqui Grové on (011) 470-6021.

  • Diagram for lodging a complaint
In terms of the FPI’s Disciplinary Regulations, specific procedures need to be followed when a complaint is lodged by a member of the public against a member of the FPI. This diagram provides a step-by-step illustration of the procedure to be followed in the processing of a complaint. Click here to download the diagram.
  • Complaint Form
This document serves as a submission form for a complaint to be lodged to the FPI and can be emailed to complaints@fpimail.co.za or faxed to 086 630 4588. Click here to download the form.
  • Affidavit Template
A complainant in a matter regarding one of our members, once assessed by the FPI after the complaint form has been submitted, must submit an affidavit to the FPI setting out the details of his/her complaint. This template gives an indication of how the affidavit should be drafted as well as the detail to be included. Click here to download the template.
  • Other Forums
If a complaint involves a financial advisor who is not a member of the FPI and is in respect of your relationship with your bank or a provident or pension fund claim, rest assured that there are reputable forums that can assist. Click here to download the information.
