The vision of the Financial Planning Institute (FPI) is to be the recognised and respected professional body for the Financial Planning profession in Southern Africa.  This will be achieved through recognition of the three professional designations, CFP® professional, AFP™ and RFP™ as registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Over the next few years we plan to significantly strengthen the Institute’s ability and capacity to represent, and be seen by the broader financial services industry as representing, the legitimate and authoritative voice of the financial planning profession as well as significantly improving the delivery of technical information to our members in order to keep them abreast of changes affecting the financial planning industry.

Part of achieving this renewed focus is the formation of a Technical Services Department which we plan to resource by the end of 2010.

To start this off, we are currently recruiting the Head: Technical Services Department.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Head: Technical Services will be responsible for:

  1. Leadership and Management:
    1. Work as part of the Executive Leadership Team;
    2. Developing and maintaining a system of obtaining member input on various technical issues and ensuring effective delivery of technical information to all members.

 

  1. Landscape Analysis and Positioning:
    1. Monitor the financial services environment for national and international trends as well as assess the impact on the financial planning profession of new policy/regulatory developments;
    2. Develop discussion documents and position papers to communicate the FPI’s position in terms of industry issues or new policy/regulatory developments in the area of financial planning.
  1. Board Relations – Through the CEO, manage and support the operations of the Technical Committee, Industry Sector Groupings and ad-hoc working groups by providing them with adequate and appropriate administration, advice, reports and information to achieve their stated objectives;

 

  1. Financial Management – Develop and manage departmental budget prudently;
  1. People and Performance - Manage, evaluate and develop the employee and volunteer resources of the department;

 

  1. Stakeholder Management and Public Relations:
    1. Positively influence FPI’s statutory stakeholders as well as industry bodies and to establish the FPI as the authoritative voice for the financial planning profession;
    2. Represent the FPI at appropriate industry committees, at parliament and other regulatory interaction.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS and/or EXPERIENCE

Suitable candidates are required to have:

  1. A clear understanding of the functioning of a professional body and non-profit organisation;
  2. A deep insight into the financial services industry and the financial planning profession in the context of local and international trends;
  3. A holistic, comprehensive knowledge of financial planning and understanding of financial planning processes;
  4. A proven track record of interaction with policy makers and regulators in the financial services industry;
  5. Strong high-level advocacy and networking abilities;
  6. Excellent research and communication skills;
  7. Strong inter-personal relationship skills;
  8. A proven track record of senior management experience of at least 4 years;
  9. Appropriate NQF7 Qualification or higher;
  10. An extensive understanding of, and commitment to, good corporate governance principles.

In addition to the above, suitable candidates should preferably have:

  1. A legal qualification;
  2. Experience in a legal advisor/consultative position.

NB: CFP® professional status would be advantageous.
