Annual re-certification
Annual re-certification of membership is compulsory. The re-certification process starts in November each year. Membership has to be renewed by 31 March each year, requirements for renewal of membership are:
- Update personal information.
- Make a declaration with regard to compliance with Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements.
- Make a declaration with regard to fit and proper status.
- Sign adherence to the Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility.
- Pay the annual fee.
CFP® professionals, and all other levels of membership, are required to maintain technical competence and fulfil ethical obligations. Every two years, they must complete at least 65 hours of CPD to stay current with developments in the financial planning profession. At least five of these hours must be spent studying or discussing the Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility and the Financial Planning Practice Standards.
How to re-certify
1. Click here to log onto your member profile.
2. Click on Renew Membership.
3. Click on the Select icon, verify and/or complete all the required information. You will be required to update your personal details, CPD record, declare your Fit and Proper status as required by the FPI and accept the FPI Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility.
4. Click on your Digital Signature and then click on the Finish button.
5. Pay your annual membership fee, click on the button below to view the 2012 membership fees and method of payments.

Re-instatement of membership
The membership of a member who resigned or who failed to apply for re-certification may be revived at any time during a period of three years following the last date for applications for re-certification, provided that the member complies in full with the requirements. After this period of three years, a person wishing to revive his membership will be required to apply for membership as if he is applying to become a member for the first time and will be required to pass the Professional Competency Exam (PCE).
