The FPI offers three Professional Competency Examinations (PCE) which provides access to candidates who have completed their studies at the appropriate level (NQF level 5, 6 and 7/8), to be certified professional members of the institute.

In 2012, these examinations may be written through an accredited education provider at which studies are being undertaken or candidates may register to write these directly through the FPI. The Curriculum Framework indicates the outcome that must be achieved in the PCE.

The examinations are:
  • CFP® professional (on completion of the appropriate NQF level 7/8 qualification)
  • AFP™ professional (on completion of the appropriate NQF level 6 qualification)
  • RFP™ professional (on completion of the appropriate NQF level 5 qualification)
