The Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI), as a professional body has as its main objective, the promotion or furtherance of competence, skills, education and professional excellence in the financial planning industry.

Serving both the financial services industry and its clients, the FPI provides an independent quality assurance process, ensuring that appropriate educational standards are maintained for financial advisers and planners, while ensuring that ethical and practice standards keep pace with the needs of the South African consumer.

This supports the ideals of the government's financial industry regulator, the Financial Services Board (FSB), in ensuring the South African consumer is served professionally by competent and ethical advisers.

The Financial Planning Institute will always be the leading independent professional body of professional financial planners in South Africa by ensuring that its members:

  1.   Are challenged by appropriate standards of competence through examination, continuing education and experience;

  2. Are motivated to continually improve by being provided with a career pathway to develop the necessary skills and knowledge;

  3. Are supported with a framework within which they can establish themselves as a profession;

  4. Are incentivised to maintain ethical standards through enforcing adherence to the Financial Planning Institute code of conduct and practice standards;

  5. Are represented in such a way that their professional conduct is respected and appreciated;

  6. Are recognised as having, through the FPI, an authoritative voice on all financial planning issues, thereby promoting the interests of consumers.
