From an education perspective, in order to become a member of the Financial Planning Institute, an individual will be required to obtain the appropriate qualification from an accredited provider and successfully complete the FPI’s Board Assessment.
The Board Assessments are capstone examinations that are embedded in the underlying qualifications. They tie the various components of the curricula into a unifying whole. These examinations are aimed at engaging students in both critical thinking and the construction of financial plans.
As an accredited provider the FPI offers the National Certificate in Wealth Management at NQF Level 5 and has partnerships with a number of universities and other educational institutions who offer qualifications at NQF Level 6 and 7.
A Professional Board Assessment is offered to individuals who have already obtained the requisite qualification from an accredited institution and who wish to take up membership with the FPI.
Once qualified, in order to retain membership at the FPI, the member will be required to provide proof of their Continued Professional Development on a biennial basis (every two years).
In order to assist members obtain the appropriate number of CPD points required, the FPI arranges regular events throughout the year in form of workshops, seminars and information sessions that are related to the financial planning profession.
