2011 Media Award Winner


    Nico van Gijsen was awarded the first FPI Media Award to recognise an FPI member who is actively involved with, and has made outstanding significant contributions to, the media (print, broadcast or online) in the year being assessed, to promote financial planning amongst consumers, the financial planning profession or the FPI and its marks.

He is Managing Director of Finlac with 20 years experience in the financial services sector. Nico currently specialises in financial risk and estate planner at Finlac. He is also Chairman of Finlac Trust, a subsidiary of BoE Trust, part of the Old Mutual/Nedbank Group.

Nico has a BA Honours and MA from the University of South Africa (Unisa), Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the University of Free State (UFS) as well as an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Financial
Planning: specialising in Estate Planning and Financial Risk Management from UFS. He is a CFP® professional and a member of Fiduciary Institute of SA (FISA).

Nico is an author of three books on fnancial planning, Retirement, Insurance and Financial Planning for Business Owners, a columnist on financial advice, for the Sunday paper Sake-Rapport, Raad met jou Rande, a weekly publication and Hulp met Kleinsake a bi-weekly publication as well as Landbouweekblad.
